Charlie Woods Shoots at the Junior PGA Championship
Charlie Woods, son of the legendary golfer Tiger Woods, has climbed positions in the Junior PGA Championship, held in West Lafayette, Indiana. After an outstanding second round, Woods is in the fight for the title.
After a first round with a score of 70, Woods shone on Wednesday with a card of 66 strokes, six under par, at the Kampen-Cosler course of the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex. His performance included birdies on six of the first eight holes, achieving an impressive 31 (-5) in the first half of the course.
In the second half, Woods continued his good play with birdies on three of the first six holes, reaching a total of nine under par in the championship. Although he suffered two consecutive bogeys that relegated him to seven under par, his performance is still notable.Despite his outstanding performance, Woods is seven strokes behind the leader, Lunden Esterline, who is already committed to Auburn University for 2027. Max VanderMolen and Chase Yenser share second place with nine under par, promising an exciting competition in the upcoming rounds.
At 16 years old, Woods seeks to secure one of the two automatic spots on the Junior Ryder Cup team, which will be awarded to the two best players this week. There is also the possibility of a selection by the captain, although the chances of Woods being chosen are low.
Student at the Benjamin School in Palm Beach, Florida, Woods won the AJGA Team TaylorMade Invitational in May. So far, he has not confirmed his college commitment.
