Charles Barkley Looks to Surprise at the American Century Championship

Charles Barkley, after his best performance in a celebrity golf tournament, is presented as the participant with the highest bets at this week’s American Century Championship, held in South Lake Tahoe, Nevada. Barkley’s odds to win the tournament are 7,500-1, according to Caesars Sportsbook. Despite these figures, some bettors have decided to invest in the NBA Hall of Famer, known for his peculiar playing style. In last year’s edition, Barkley achieved his best historical position, finishing in 58th place. The sportsbook has set a margin of 65.5 as a reference for Barkley’s final position in this week’s tournament.

We’ve seen some tickets betting on Barkley to win, but we might soon see those tickets on eBay.

Mardy Fish, from tennis, won the tournament last year. However, Joe Pavelski, a retired hockey player, is the favorite to win this week’s tournament, surpassing the last three champions of the annual event. Pavelski has odds of +220 to win the tournament at Caesars Sportsbook, followed by Fish (+240), CBS NFL analyst and former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo (+350), and Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry (+425). Salleroli reported that the bets on the event winner are distributed evenly among Pavelski, Fish, Curry, and Romo. Curry won the tournament in 2023, while Romo did so in 2022. Other notable players in the tournament, which features 90 golfers, include Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers (45-1), actor Alfonso Ribeiro (175-1), Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce (275-1), ESPN analyst Jason Kelce (350-1), and comedian Larry the Cable Guy (2,000-1).
