AUSTIN – The young American motorsport prospect, Jak Crawford, will participate in the first free practice session for Aston Martin at the Formula 1 Mexico City Grand Prix next week.
Crawford, 20 years old, will take Lance Stroll’s seat in the initial session of the weekend.
F1 regulations require teams to give a young driver a chance in two races per car during the season.
Formerly a member of the Red Bull junior academy, Crawford joined the Aston Martin young driver program in 2024 and has conducted several tests with the team since then. The appearance in Mexico will be his first participation in an official Formula 1 session.
I’m excited to drive the AMR25 next week in Mexico for my first official Formula 1 session. I’ve worked closely with the team all year, so taking the next step and having track time on a grand prix weekend is really exciting. Announcing this in Texas, where I’m from, makes it even more special.
Crawford aspires to become the next American driver in F1. Recently, he missed an opportunity with the new F1 team, Cadillac, which joins the grid as the eleventh team in the competition next season.
The team opted for the experience of Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Pérez for their driver lineup, but Crawford was not considered for any role within the team, although IndyCar driver Colton Herta has been signed as a Cadillac test driver.
