Lewis Hamilton Withdraws from Pirelli Test Due to His Dog’s Illness
Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton was forced to withdraw from Friday’s Pirelli tire test due to his dog Roscoe’s illness.
The seven-time world champion was scheduled to participate in the race at Mugello, but had to withdraw to be with his pet.
Hamilton reported on the condition of Roscoe, a 12-year-old bulldog, through his social media.
In the post, Hamilton shared images of a veterinary clinic and asked his followers to keep Roscoe in their thoughts. “Roscoe contracted pneumonia again and was struggling to breathe. He was admitted to the hospital and sedated to calm him while they ran tests and during the process his heart stopped,” the driver explained.
The statement continued: “They managed to get his heartbeat back and now he is in a coma. We don’t know if he will wake up from this. Tomorrow we will try to wake him up. I am by his side and I want to thank you all for your prayers and support.”The driver often shares images of Roscoe on his social media, and the bulldog, who has attended multiple races over the years, last visited the Formula 1 paddock at the British Grand Prix in Silverstone.
The reserve driver, Zhou Guanyu, took on Hamilton’s responsibilities at the Mugello test alongside Charles Leclerc.
The test, which is being carried out in a modified version of this year’s Ferrari, is scheduled to help Pirelli finalize decisions on the hardest compounds in its range of tires for next year.
