Lamont Roach Jr. Steps Up to Face Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz for the WBC Interim Title

The reigning WBA champion in the junior lightweight category, Lamont Roach Jr., will move up to 140 pounds to face Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz for the WBC interim super lightweight title. The fight will take place on December 6 at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio. This fight will be the main event of a Premier Boxing Champions pay-per-view on Prime Video. Roach (25-1-2, 10 KOs) changed course after a proposed rematch in August with Gervonta “Tank” Davis, who then faced Jake Paul in an exhibition in November, was canceled. Roach and Davis had a controversial majority draw in March. Instead of waiting for the result of the fight between Paul and Davis, Roach will seek to become interim champion at 140 pounds, making this fight his third consecutive competing in a different weight category. Cruz (28-3-1, 18 KOs) lost by a close decision to Davis in December 2021. Since that fight, he has had a record of 6-1, winning the vacant WBC super lightweight title in his last fight, where he defeated Omar Salcido in July. From Mexico City, Cruz and his team see this fight as an opportunity to become the next big star in the country, considering it the “most important fight of his career”.

This is the most important moment Isaac Cruz has had in his career. This fight is even bigger than the first one against ‘Tank’, because Mexico is looking for a new face for boxing after Canelo lost against Crawford. They are looking for a world champion and a new star to fight on the weekends of Mexican Independence Day and Cinco de Mayo.

Sean Gibbons, Cruz’s manager
The Cruz team hopes this fight will propel Cruz into that conversation.
