Rules Defined for the Jake Paul vs. Gervonta Davis Match

In a press conference held on Monday in New York, Nakisa Bidarian, co-founder of Most Valuable Promotions, revealed the key details of the expected fight between Jake Paul and Gervonta Davis, scheduled for November 14th. The match will be a 10-round exhibition, with each round lasting three minutes. The maximum weight set for the fight will be 195 pounds. Boxers will use 12-ounce gloves during the event night. For comparison, boxers competing in the welterweight (147 pounds) and lower weight categories usually use 8-ounce gloves, a standard Davis is accustomed to. Paul, for his part, has fought all his fights with 10-ounce gloves, which is usual for fights above the welterweight, except for the exhibition against Mike Tyson last November, where both fighters used 14-ounce gloves.
Although the Paul-Davis fight is an exhibition, which means the result will not affect the professional records of either boxer, three judges will be on hand at ringside to score the fight and a winner will be determined if the bout goes the full distance. Last week, the venue change for the fight was announced, which was originally going to take place at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, and will now be held at the Kaseya Center in Miami, after Most Valuable Promotions withdrew its application to host the event in Georgia. Rick Thompson, chairman of the Georgia Athletic and Entertainment Commission (GAEC), criticized the celebration of the fight due to the weight disparity between the boxers. Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs) is the current WBA lightweight champion and weighed 133.8 pounds for his last fight, a controversial majority draw against Lamont Roach Jr. He has never fought in a weight class above 140 pounds in his professional career. Paul (12-1, 7 KOs) currently competes at cruiserweight and weighed 199.4 pounds for his June victory over Julio César Chávez Jr. He has weighed up to 227.2 pounds for the fight against Tyson and a minimum of 183.75 pounds for his February 2023 loss to Tommy Fury.
