Rules for the fight between Jake Paul and Gervonta Davis revealed
In a press conference held on Monday in New York, Nakisa Bidarian, co-founder of Most Valuable Promotions, unveiled the rules for the highly anticipated match between Jake Paul and Gervonta Davis, scheduled for November 14th.
The fight will be held as a ten-round exhibition, with rounds of three minutes each. The maximum weight for the fight will be 195 pounds. In addition, 12-ounce gloves will be used during the event night.
In comparison, boxers competing in the welterweight (147 pounds) and lower weight categories usually use 8-ounce gloves, a standard Davis is accustomed to.
Paul, for his part, has fought all his battles with 10-ounce gloves, the usual for fights above the welterweight, except in the exhibition against Mike Tyson last November, where both contenders used 14-ounce gloves. The November 14 boxing match between Gervonta Davis and Jake Paul will be a 10-round exhibition with a maximum weight of 195 pounds and the boxers will use 12-ounce gloves.
Although the fight between Paul and Davis has been classified as an exhibition, which means that the result will not affect their professional records, there will be three judges in the ring to score the fight and a winner will be determined if it goes the distance.
Last week, it was announced that the fight was moved from the State Farm Arena in Atlanta to the Kaseya Center in Miami after Most Valuable Promotions withdrew its application to host the event in Georgia.
Rick Thompson, chairman of the Georgia Athletic and Entertainment Commission (GAEC), criticized the holding of the fight due to the weight disparity between the boxers and stated that the promoter was “promoting something they shouldn’t have done.”
Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs) is the current WBA lightweight champion and weighed 133.8 pounds for his last fight, a controversial majority draw against Lamont Roach Jr. He has never fought in a weight class above 140 pounds in his professional career.
Paul (12-1, 7 KOs) currently competes at cruiserweight and weighed 199.4 pounds for his June victory over Julio César Chávez Jr. He has weighed up to 227.2 pounds for the fight with Tyson and as little as 183.75 pounds for his February 2023 loss against Tommy Fury.
