Jaime Munguia at Risk After Positive Drug Test

The triumph of Jaime Munguia over Bruno Surace on May 4th could be in jeopardy. Following a post-fight doping test, the former junior middleweight champion has tested positive for a banned substance.

A representative from Munguia’s team informed Alofoke Deportes that they received a notification from the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) on Wednesday night, related to the presence of exogenous testosterone metabolites in the A sample. The team will officially respond to this notification.

The Munguia team will request the opening of the B sample soon. Munguia has 10 days to request the analysis of the B sample, in order to verify the origin of the testosterone metabolites. If the B sample also yields an adverse result, the former champion’s victory could be annulled and converted to “no decision.” Furthermore, he could face a suspension of between six months and a year. Golden Boy Promotions, Munguia’s promoter, has not yet issued any comments.
