Jorge Masvidal Wins Legal Victory Worth Millions Against Fanmio
UFC veteran Jorge Masvidal has achieved a significant victory in his legal battle against the online platform Fanmio. A Florida judge ruled in favor of Masvidal, granting him a default judgment exceeding $5 million.
Judge Beatrice Butchko Sanchez approved Masvidal’s request, following the ruling of an arbitrator who awarded the former BMF champion the sum of $5,315,268.64, in addition to post-judgment interest related to his boxing match.
Masvidal sued Fanmio in January, arguing that his agreement for the fight against Nate Diaz included a $6 million purse, plus an additional million if he won the fight. Masvidal lost the fight by decision and claimed to have received only a $150,000 advance and a $1 million payment.
The referee ruled in favor of Masvidal, and with the final approval, this matter has been resolved.
Despite this victory for Masvidal, Fanmio still faces other lawsuits from other fighters.
Nate Diaz filed a lawsuit against Fanmio two weeks after the Masvidal case, claiming a debt of over 9 million dollars. An arbitrator ruled in favor of Diaz, awarding him 6 million dollars, plus attorney’s fees. This case is still awaiting final approval.
In March, Fanmio filed a lawsuit against Golden Boy Promotions and Ryan Garcia, due to a canceled exhibition match with Rukiya Anpo, scheduled for December 31, 2024. Garcia chose to fight Rolando Romero in May.
