Oscar Collazo Retains World Titles with Impressive Victory

In a night filled with emotions, boxer Oscar Collazo successfully defended his WBO and WBA strawweight titles by achieving a technical knockout in the seventh round against Jayson Vayson. The fight, which took place on Saturday, culminated with an unexpected decision from Vayson’s corner, stopping the match. The fight was competitive until the moment of the interruption. Vayson, showing great aggression, stood up to Collazo (13-0, 10 KOs) despite having been knocked down in the first round. Vayson managed to recover and focused his attacks on Collazo’s body in the fourth round. Collazo responded with effective combinations, cornering Vayson (14-2-1, 8 KOs) in the sixth and seventh rounds. Despite the intense action, Vayson’s corner requested the stoppage of the fight without the boxer appearing to be in obvious danger.

They thought I was dazed, but I wanted to keep fighting. Of course, I respect the corner’s decision for the boxer’s safety. I felt the blows on my body, but I thought I could handle it.

Collazo, representing Puerto Rico, added his third consecutive knockout victory, solidifying his position as champion since 2023. He conquered the WBO title by defeating Melvin Jerusalem in May 2023 and added the WBA title in 2024, after knocking out Knockout CP Freshmart in November of that same year.

I think I got a good stoppage. I was pressing, picking my shots. The seventh round was the one we were going to attack with everything, and we got the stoppage. In the last three rounds I was wearing him down. I knew I was going to get it. I applied the pressure as I wanted. I saw that he was getting tired, and I wanted to pick my shots in that round and it was stopped.

In the co-main event, undisputed women’s flyweight champion Gabriela Fundora (17-0, 8 KOs) dominated Alexas Kubicki (13-2, 2 KOs), achieving a technical knockout victory in the seventh round. Kubicki stepped in as a replacement for Ayelen “Piru” Granadino of Argentina, who was denied a visa to enter the United States. Fundora didn’t take long to connect combinations on Kubicki, who tried to defend himself from his opponent, noticeably taller, before the fight was stopped.
