Boxer Chantelle Cameron has expressed her gratitude to Jake Paul for his impact on women’s boxing and for revitalizing her own career. Despite being considered one of the best pound-for-pound female boxers and the only one to defeat Katie Taylor, Cameron contemplated retirement earlier this year. Cameron (20-1, 8 KOs), 34 years old and originally from Northampton, seemed to have a promising future after defeating Taylor, possibly the most prominent figure in women’s boxing, for the undisputed world super lightweight title in May 2023. Taylor regained the titles in November 2023, and Cameron felt her career lost momentum in 2024, despite winning two interim WBC title fights. The boxer even questioned whether she should retire, but her career received a significant boost when she signed with Most Valuable Promotions (MVP), Jake Paul’s promotional company, in May. Later, it was announced that Cameron would face Jessica Camara (14-4-1, 3 KOs), from Canada, on the Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano III card at Madison Square Garden.
Cameron explained that the lack of big fights and opportunities led her to consider retirement, but MVP’s intervention changed the course of her career. The Riyadh season in Saudi Arabia has become an influential player in world boxing in the last two years, hosting major fights with significant purses. Skye Nicolson’s victory over Raven Chapman was the first women’s world title fight held in Saudi Arabia in November 2024, but, otherwise, female boxers have been absent from Saudi fight cards. Cameron noticed a decrease in opportunities for female boxers due to the relocation of some major events from the UK and the United States to Saudi Arabia.“I went from being the undisputed super-lightweight world champion, fighting Katie Taylor in consecutive fights, to having meaningless fights,” Cameron commented.

Cameron highlighted Paul and Bidarian’s investment in women’s boxing, which had been stagnant, and how this has provided new opportunities and perspectives for female boxers. Cameron is now being trained by Stephen Smith, and is expected to surpass Camara to become Taylor’s most likely opponent by the end of 2025.“Jake Paul and Nakisa Bidarian have saved women’s boxing because it was suffering a massive blow until they intervened, and many female boxers will agree with that,” Cameron stated.

Cameron also mentioned the presence of the Paul brothers at the Liverpool gym, which gives him additional support. His goals include winning the 140-pound title by the end of the year and then moving up to 147 pounds. In addition, he expressed his desire to fight for the WBC world title, whether against Katie Taylor or not.“Training with Stephen Smith is the best decision I’ve made in my boxing career and I wish I had done it sooner,” said Cameron.
