The Madison Square Garden: A Magical Stage for Wrestling
The Madison Square Garden, an emblematic venue, has always been a key place for professional wrestling. Historically, it was the main headquarters of the World Wide Wrestling Federation, especially when it operated in the northeastern United States under the old regional territorial system. Nowadays, WWE usually adds a special touch when presenting a show at the “World’s Most Famous Arena”.
The “Raw” episode already had that magic, as it marked John Cena’s last appearance as an active competitor. That alone was enough to sell out the MSG, but fans also witnessed a significant title change, the announcement of a main event match at Survivor Series: WarGames, and the return of three surprise figures who left their mark.
Results for “Raw”
- John Cena, Rey Mysterio, and Sheamus defeated The Judgement Day (Dominik Mysterio, Finn Balor, and JD McDonagh)
- Solo Sikoa defeated Dolph Ziggler
- Maxxine Dupri defeated Becky Lynch to win the Women’s Intercontinental Championship
- Gunther defeated Je’Von Evans
The Last Cena Fight on “Raw” Surpassed Expectations
Cena seemed to enjoy teaming up with Sheamus and Rey Mysterio in a six-person tag team match against The Judgement Day. The joy was reflected on the faces of the trio as they executed their signature moves, including a triple Five Knuckle Shuffle that commentator Joe Tessitore brilliantly described as “The 15-Knuckle Shuffle”. In addition, a 30 Beats of the Bodhran and a double 619, or 1,238, courtesy of Mysterio, were witnessed.
We know that Cena will defend the Intercontinental Championship against Dominik Mysterio at Survivor Series: WarGames in Dom’s hometown of San Diego, reminiscent of John Cena’s “house and house” series against Edge from 2006. On that occasion, Cena won the title in his hometown of Boston and it is likely that Dom will regain it in San Diego. I acknowledge that, at first, when the six-person match was announced, I felt skepticism. I wished that Cena’s last match on “Raw” would be individual and meaningful, but my opinion changed when I saw the joy that this match generated among the participants.
Other Highlights of “Raw”
- MSG was the perfect setting for Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns to face each other at the end of the show. With these two completing the WarGames teams, the match becomes even more stellar and interesting. Now there are many possibilities for the match, with countless interesting combinations for the pairings in the ring.
The news continues.
