“Raw” ignites the rivalry for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship
A few days before WWE lands in Perth, Australia, for the Premium Live Event Crown Jewel on Saturday, “Raw” generated new questions about the status and future of the World Heavyweight Championship. Three wrestlers, Jey Uso, CM Punk, and LA Knight, eagerly await a title opportunity, while the current champion, Seth Rollins, focuses on obtaining the championship against an opponent he has not yet defeated in WWE, Cody Rhodes.
“Raw” Results for Monday
- Maxxine Dupri defeated Becky Lynch by count out.
- Roxanne Perez defeated Lyra Valkyria.
- Kairi Sane defeated Iyo Sky.
- Penta, AJ Styles, and Dragon Lee defeated Dominik Mysterio, JD McDonagh, and Finn Balor.
- CM Punk and LA Knight defeated The Usos.
The list of contenders for the World Championship is saturated, and we love that.
When Punk, Knight, and Uso stormed the ring and began arguing over who deserved the next opportunity for the World Heavyweight Championship, the importance of the championship instantly rose. Rollins wasn’t even in the ring, as the three top superstars verbally clashed over what seemed to be the most important thing for all of them.
Later, the main event in pairs between Punk and Knight vs. Jey and Jimmy Uso reminded everyone that tension is present in every corner of WWE. It’s like the Spiderman pointing meme.
The match between Rollins and Rhodes at Crown Jewel has everything to be very entertaining, but we know that both champions have their own paths after the event. (For Rollins, it implies a minimum of three forks in the road). So it will be fun to see how the title situation unfolds after Crown Jewel.
More details of “Raw”
- “Raw” prepared an Australian Street Fight match at Crown Jewel between Roman Reigns and Bronson Reed. What are the differences between an Australian Street Fight and other WWE street fights? We’re not sure. The rules seem very similar.
- Lynch vs. Dupri was a fun match with a creative finish that saw Lynch lose the count and be counted out by a 10-count from the referee that was sped up (particularly at 8, 9, 10). Lynch mentioned it later, calling referee Jessika Carr “corrupt.”
- Bayley, who was in Valkyria’s corner for her match with Perez, continued to show the duality of her personality, bringing out her aggressive and evil side minutes after being the charming and huggable version with Valkyria. This story seems like an implosion about to happen, and Valkyria will be the eventual victim, but not before Bayley and Valkyria team up for a tag team match with Perez and Raquel Rodriguez, whom Bayley and Valkyria attacked backstage.
- Rollins pressed his manager, Paul Heyman, about what Heyman’s next move would be if Rollins lost to Rhodes again at Crown Jewel. To which Heyman replied: “I would have to ask myself why I chose you over Roman Reigns.” Whether Rollins uses that as motivation or it becomes a crack in The Vision’s armor, much of the focus of this match has been on Rollins’ doubt and need to win, making the possibility of him losing again even more interesting.
- At the end of last week’s “Raw,” it seemed like we might see the reformation of the original Bloodline, but this week raised doubts about that notion, with Reigns, Jey, and Jimmy Uso simply unable to agree.
- After Styles got the pin for his team in the six-man match, he took the microphone, jumped onto the commentary table, and said that the story for his next match with John Cena at Crown Jewel “writes itself,” and I agree. All I really want from the rest of Cena’s retirement tour are some fun matches and some stunts here and there.
