Jim Ross, wrestling legend, faces battle against colon cancer

The renowned professional wrestling commentator, Jim Ross, has been diagnosed with colon cancer. The news was announced by Ross himself, 73 years old, through a post on social media last Thursday. In it, he reported that he was diagnosed this week and will undergo surgery in the next two weeks.

“I appreciate your concern and support,” Ross wrote.

Ross is widely known for his extensive career in World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), where he worked from 1993 to 2013. His emblematic phrases have transcended popular culture, solidifying him as one of the most beloved voices in the history of wrestling. His exclamation “My God” or “By God”, pronounced with his distinctive Oklahoma accent after shocking moments, is perhaps his most famous phrase. Other expressions such as “He’s broken in half” and “That man has a family” are often used on social media, even in contexts unrelated to wrestling. Jim Ross is a fervent follower and promoter of the American football team Oklahoma Sooners, and it is common to see him walk to the ring with the school anthem, “Boomer Sooner,” playing in the background. In 2007, Ross was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame and has been part of All Elite Wrestling (AEW) since 2019. All Elite Wrestling issued a statement showing their support for Ross.

“All Elite Wrestling joins fans around the world in sending love and support to Jim Ross as he battles colon cancer. J.R. is a valued member of the AEW family, and we stand by him during his road to recovery,” stated AEW.
