Dragunov US Champion on SmackDown: Rhodes DQ, Fatu injured and more

2 Min Read

The last episode of “SmackDown” presented a show with ups and downs, although it left memorable moments for wrestling fans.

Dragunov Crowned Champion

The main event of the night saw the triumphant return of Ilja Dragunov, who defeated Sami Zayn to become the new WWE United States Champion. This match marked Dragunov’s return after an injury, and his victory was enthusiastically received by the audience.

The fight for the title was intense, with Solo Sikoa interfering in the match, distracting Zayn and allowing Dragunov to capitalize and secure the victory. Dragunov’s victory opens the door to future rivalries, including possible clashes with Zayn and Sikoa, as well as with other wrestlers like Rey Fenix and Shinsuke Nakamura.

Cody Rhodes: A New Side?

Cody Rhodes showed a more aggressive side, particularly in his rivalry with Drew McIntyre. Rhodes, visibly frustrated by McIntyre’s actions, used the championship as a weapon, which led to a disqualification in a title match. This change in Rhodes’ attitude sparked speculation about a possible character change towards the “heel” side, although it seems unlikely at this time, given his role as a main figure in WWE.

The rivalry between Rhodes and McIntyre continues to develop, and the night did not determine a number one contender. Jacob Fatu was attacked backstage, preventing him from competing in the match for the contender spot.

The return of Dragunov and the growing tension in the rivalry between Rhodes and McIntyre were the highlights of the program.
