The injury occurred as he was attempting to secure a rebound under the basket and his left knee bent.

After the game, Wembanyama reported that he suffered a hyperextension and that initial tests revealed no other problems. He will undergo further examinations on Thursday.

I was confident. I was about to return to the game. They had to stop me. It was just a hyperextension, so it should be minimal. Tomorrow we have to do everything possible to verify that everything is okay.
Victor Wembanyama

Wembanyama added: “I hope to be back in the next game.”

Wembanyama’s injury occurred at 10:32 of the end of the game, with the Spurs losing 106-92, while fighting for a rebound with Karl-Anthony Towns and Jordan Clarkson. He immediately grabbed his left knee after the play. His teammate Stephon Castle helped him up, and the Frenchman headed to the locker room on his own.

Wembanyama appeared to tell Castle “I’m fine” as the guard helped him up and seemed to convey the same message to the crowd, as he limped off the court.

Wembanyama returned to the bench with 1:22 remaining, wearing team warm-up gear, but did not re-enter the game.

Spurs coach Mitch Johnson said that the fact that Wembanyama finished the game on the bench gave him hope that the injury was not serious.

I haven’t been able to speak with the medical staff yet, but I think I saw what everyone else saw.
