Although the injury occurred on Wednesday, he is not expected to be placed on the injured list for now.

Manager Carlos Mendoza indicated that Lindor is considered day-to-day and was unavailable for the final game of the series against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday. It has not yet been confirmed whether Lindor will return for Friday’s game against the Colorado Rockies.

If I can tolerate the pain, yes, I will play. If I can’t, then it wouldn’t be fair to play with 25 players on the roster. It’s not fair to the guys who are here. I hope to feel well enough, whether it’s tomorrow, the next day, or whenever.

Francisco Lindor

The injury occurred in the first inning of Wednesday’s game, when Dodgers right-hander Tony Gonsolin hit Lindor with a slider. Despite the obvious pain, Lindor remained in the game and played all nine innings. Subsequent X-rays confirmed the fracture.

Lindor explained that the pain is greater when wearing sneakers or shoes with cleats. He acknowledged that he anticipates it will be a persistent problem that generally requires six weeks to heal completely. Upon returning, he hopes to play shortstop and not be a designated hitter.

From my perspective, if I’m good enough to hit and run, I should be good enough to play shortstop. But at the end of the day, I trust the coaches and what they think is best, I’ll do it.

Francisco Lindor

Mendoza announced that Luisangel Acuña, who played shortstop on Thursday, will cover Lindor’s position, although Ronny Mauricio is also an option. Brandon Nimmo replaced Lindor as the Mets’ leadoff hitter for Thursday’s game.

Lindor, runner-up for National League MVP last season, is batting .279/.353/.490 with 14 home runs and 11 stolen bases. Six of his home runs have been as a leadoff hitter. His 2.7 WAR was tied for fifth in the National League before Thursday.

This is the second time in his career that Lindor has fractured a bone during a series against the Dodgers. In June 2022, he fractured his right middle finger while closing a hotel door.

Three years ago, I broke my finger here and it still hurts a lot. So it’s part of the physical effort of a professional athlete. These are things we go through. It’s what God wanted this week and I will handle it.
