New York Rangers defenseman Adam Fox has been placed on the long-term injured reserve list due to an upper-body injury, according to sources close to the situation.<\/p>\n
Fox is expected to be out of action for several weeks.<\/p>\n
After receiving a second medical opinion on Sunday, it was determined that the injury is not long-lasting and should not affect his participation in the Olympic Games in February.<\/p>\n
However, upon being placed on the long-term injured list, Fox will be out for at least 10 games and 24 days.<\/p>\n
Fox suffered the injury in Saturday’s 4-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning, after being hit into the boards by Brandon Hagel.<\/p>\n
The 27-year-old player appeared to be protecting his left arm as he headed to the locker room and did not return to the game.<\/p>\n
Up to the point of the injury, Fox had accumulated three goals and 23 assists in 27 games, tying him with Artemi Panarin for the team lead in points (26) this season.<\/p>\n
Although the news about the injury is not as serious as initially thought, it is not ideal for the Rangers (13-12-2), who are outside the playoff zone and will now have to play without their star defense until, at least, Christmas.<\/p>\n
