Last Friday, Kyle Palmieri, an NHL veteran, starred in one of those actions that deserve the recognition of all fans. The player suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) while chasing the puck in the offensive zone.

The image was shocking: Palmieri collapsed on the ice, visibly affected by the pain. Despite the injury, and with the game moving to the neutral zone, the player got up, made his way with difficulty to the bench, but on the way, stole the puck from Emil Andrae, defenseman for the Philadelphia Flyers, and assisted in the subsequent goal.

Palmieri couldn’t see the goal, as he was taken off the court and moved to the locker room. The injury will keep him away from the courts for six to eight months.

In short: Palmieri tore his ACL, got up on his own, went to the bench, recovered the puck and made a pass that ended in a goal. A display of courage that sums up the idiosyncrasies of ice hockey.

This kind of feats are not exclusive to hockey, but in this sport they seem to be more frequent and credible. Tenacity, the refusal to surrender in the face of adversity, are values that are celebrated in the world of hockey.

T.J. Oshie, NHL analyst and veteran with over 1,000 games, reacted to Palmieri’s effort:

Hockey guy.
— TJ Oshie (@TJOshie77) June 7, 2024

The sport gives us moments like these, which remind us why we love hockey.

Matches of the Week

Here are some of the most outstanding matches of the week:

Chicago Blackhawks vs. Vegas Golden Knights

Tuesday, 10 p.m. | ESPN+/Hulu

A duel between two teams looking to bounce back. For the first time in NHL history, the game between the Wild and the Avalanche featured commentary in the Ojibwe language, in honor of Native American Heritage Day. A gesture that means a lot to fans who consume hockey in their native languages.

The @mnwild honored Native American Heritage Day with Ojibwe-language commentary on their broadcast.

I spoke with fans who consume hockey games in their native languages, and it means the world to them and particularly their family members who can fully experience and fall in love with hockey, surrounded by their family and friends.

You absolutely love to see it. 👏 pic.twitter.com/V1J3wV398b
— Jessi Pierce (@jessi_pierce) June 7, 2024

A shout-out to Jessi Pierce, who covers the Wild and co-hosts the hockey podcast “Bardown Beauties”.

Hart Trophy Candidates if the Season Ended Today

Nathan MacKinnon could stay on this list for the rest of the season, as he is building a considerable lead in the Art Ross Trophy standings. Scott Wedgewood, with a .920 save percentage, also deserves recognition. And, finally, Macklin Celebrini, second in NHL points.

Social Media Post of the Week

Ice hockey has come to the NHL!
