Alonso sees Newey’s appointment as a logical step for Aston Martin<\/h2>\n\nFernando Alonso believes that the appointment of Adrian Newey as team principal of Aston Martin is the “logical step” in the team’s quest to become world champions in the future.\n\nOn Wednesday, Aston Martin announced the new role for the F1 design legend, who will join from Red Bull at the beginning of 2025 as a shareholder and technical administrative partner.\n\nThis leadership change meant that former team boss Andy Cowell, who oversaw Mercedes’ dominant engine program in the 2010s, moved to a role more focused on power units, overseeing the upcoming partnership with Honda.\n\nThe arrival of Newey comes after a disappointing season: Aston Martin currently occupies eighth place in the championship, despite the enormous investment of owner Lawrence Stroll in a new factory and a dream team of technical talent behind the scenes.\n\nAlonso stated that the leadership change made sense given the team’s ambition.\n\n\n
