Makhachev headlined the event and won the welterweight championship over Jack Della Maddalena.\n\nAlthough the UFC tends to quickly leave behind “behind-the-scenes” altercations between athletes, Adams made it clear that the city will take a closer look at what happened.\n\n

These assaults at Madison Square Garden are completely unacceptable. The New York Police Department is already conducting a full investigation, and everyone responsible will be held accountable.<\/p>Eric Adams<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n

At the press conference following the UFC 322 event on November 15, UFC CEO Dana White announced that the promotion would impose a permanent “ban” on Danis from future UFC events. Danis has a history of public altercations and had posted derogatory comments and photos, some of which were false, about Makhachev online in the days leading up to UFC 322.<\/p>\n\nSeveral videos showed that Makhachev’s teammates, Magomed ‘Chanco’ Zaynukov and Abubakar Nurmagomedov, were involved in the incident, including throwing punches at the back of Danis’s head. Danis was immediately escorted out of the arena by security. Makhachev’s teammates were also removed and watched his world title performance from outside the venue.\n\nThe animosity between Danis and Makhachev’s team dates back to 2017, when McGregor challenged Makhachev’s mentor, Khabib Nurmagomedov, for the UFC lightweight championship.\n\n
