The announcement was made on Wednesday by the institution based in Rhode Island.\n\nFederer, the first tennis player to win 20 Grand Slam singles titles, was part of a golden era of tennis alongside his rivals Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. He was the only candidate in the players category who received the necessary support for the Hall of Fame Class of 2026.\n\nJournalist and television commentator Mary Carillo, also a former player, was elected in the contributors category. Being recognized in this way by the sport and by my peers is deeply moving.<\/p>\n\n<cite>Roger Federer<\/cite>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\nFederer is one of the eight men who have managed to win all four Grand Slam tournaments, accumulating eight championships at Wimbledon, six at the Australian Open, five at the US Open, and one at the French Open.\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n\n<p>I didn&#8217;t predict I would have so many majors. I expected maybe to have one, to be honest, at the beginning of my career.<\/p>\n\n<cite>Roger Federer<\/cite>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\nThe first Grand Slam title for Federer came at the All England Club in 2003. In 2009, he surpassed Pete Sampras&#8217; record of 14 major titles by winning Wimbledon, defeating Andy Roddick in a thrilling match.\n\n\n<p>His Grand Slam account was eventually surpassed by Nadal and Djokovic, who are still active.<\/p>\n\n\nWith an elegant game and an all-court attacking style, Federer won 103 tournaments and 1,251 singles matches.\n\nFederer spent five years at number 1 in the ATP ranking, spending a record 237 consecutive weeks and a total of 310 weeks at the top. In addition, he led Switzerland to the Davis Cup title in 2014 and won a gold medal in doubles at the 2008 Olympic Games alongside Stan Wawrinka.\n\nFederer, a tennis ambassador, played his last match at Wimbledon in 2021. His retirement announcement came the following year, saying goodbye by playing doubles alongside Nadal at the Laver Cup.\n\nFederer established himself as a role model for younger athletes, such as Carlos Alcaraz.\n\nAt the peak of his career, Federer reached a record of 10 consecutive Grand Slam finals between 2005 and 2007, winning eight.
