The Hendrick Motorsports driver demonstrated his skill behind the wheel, outperforming his competitors in a competition full of adrenaline.

Byron executed a decisive maneuver with 43 laps to go, taking the lead in turn 1 and bumping Ryan Blaney. From that moment on, he led the rest of the race, defending his position on a restart with 11 laps remaining. Byron, who started from the pole position, dominated the race, leading 304 of the 500 laps, earning his third victory of the season with the No. 24 Chevrolet.

“I think William had the race of his life,” commented Jeff Gordon, Hendrick’s vice president and nine-time winner at Martinsville.

Jeff Gordon

This victory marks Byron’s first triumph in 11 races since August at the Iowa Speedway. Despite a six-month drought after his Daytona 500 win, Byron remained steadfast and managed to secure his place in the final.

In a race where victory was imperative, Blaney fell short, despite qualifying in 31st position and leading 177 laps on the 0.526-mile oval. However, Blaney congratulated Byron in Victory Lane, demonstrating sportsmanship.

Kyle Larson, Byron’s teammate at Hendrick Motorsports, secured the final championship-eligible spot with a fourth-place finish, surpassing Christopher Bell by seven points.

“What a performance by William! I’m happy for Hendrick Motorsports. This victory is the best thing that could happen so that we can add more points than Christopher and that William also wins. I hope one of us can win it,” said Larson.

Kyle Larson

Bell, for his part, was satisfied with the result, acknowledging the validity of the four final contenders.

Byron and Larson will face Denny Hamlin and Chase Briscoe in the final round at Phoenix Raceway on November 2nd, where the championship will be decided among the best-performing drivers.

As for Hamlin and Briscoe, both suffered mechanical problems during the race. Hamlin, who started the third round with a victory at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, had to retire on lap 334 due to engine problems.

Briscoe, for his part, finished in last place due to a power failure in his No. 19 Toyota after 295 laps. Despite this, Briscoe had already secured his place in the Championship 4 thanks to his victory at the Talladega Superspeedway on October 19.

The NASCAR Cup Series final promises to be an exciting event, with four drivers competing for the championship.

William Byron led the final 43 laps to win at Martinsville Speedway, securing the third spot in the Championship 4.
