The Memphis Grizzlies have announced that their star, point guard Ja Morant, suffered a Grade 1 right calf sprain during the first quarter of Saturday’s loss to Cleveland.<\/p>\n
Morant will be out for at least two weeks.<\/p>\n
The player left the game with 6:01 remaining in the first quarter, after scoring 7 points in six minutes with 2 of 2 in shots.<\/p>\n
The point guard had already missed the previous game against the Boston Celtics due to a right ankle injury.<\/p>\n
This setback comes at a difficult time for Memphis, which is going through a streak of four consecutive losses, with eight losses in the last nine games.<\/p>\n
Morant, a two-time NBA All-Star, is averaging career lows in minutes played (28.8), field goal percentage (35.9%), 3-point field goal percentage (16.7%), and rebounds (3.5), while averaging a career-high 3.8 turnovers per game.<\/p>\n
The Grizzlies suspended Morant for conduct detrimental to the team after the October 31st loss to the Los Angeles Lakers, after he had a post-game exchange with coach Tuomas Iisalo. Morant returned to the lineup on November 3rd against Detroit.<\/p>\n
In the third year of a five-year, $197.2 million contract signed in 2022, Morant has only played 59 games in the last two seasons due to injuries and a couple of suspensions stemming from incidents involving weapons.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
