His arrival has generated great expectation, being one of the most anticipated debuts in recent times. Here we tell you more about him.

Highlighted Career

In first-class cricket, Green has demonstrated outstanding performance. He has five centuries in 21 matches, including a career-high of 197 runs at the start of this season against New South Wales. His batting average is 55.04. Recently, he played against the Indians last week, proving his worth with the bat and an average of 21.72 with the ball, with 33 wickets, including 5 for 24 in his debut.

His career in limited-overs matches is not as prominent, although he debuted in ODIs a couple of weeks ago. It is with the red (and pink) ball that he is generating the most enthusiasm.

Great Expectations

Expectations are high. Greg Chappell has called him “the best since Ricky Ponting”. In June, Chappell selected him for the number 6 position in the test team.

“For me, Cameron Green is the next Australian cricket superstar,” said Chappell. “He is a real promise with the bat and ball, but I think his future is as a batsman who can offer some quality overs. Cameron is a batsman with unusual talent. At 6 feet 7 inches, he could become something very special. I would put him at number 6 to start, but I think number 4 is his long-term position. The sooner he plays at this level, the sooner he will become the player he should be.”

Greg Chappell

Concern about the Recent Injury

A worrying moment was when he received a blow to the head from a Jasprit Bumrah delivery at the SCG. He was retired from the match due to concussion, but tests ruled out fractures. Fortunately, the blow did not cause major damage, and it seems he will comply with Cricket Australia’s protocols for his debut.

The Ideal All-Terrain Vehicle for Australia?

With caution, yes. Green has had restrictions on his releases due to a stress fracture in his back. He has worked on his action with WA bowling coach Matt Mason and has been limited to four-over spells. However, he has shown his ability to take wickets.

Tim Paine suggested that bowling restrictions could be relaxed. “I think he’ll bowl a few more than that, once you’re selected in a Test match, you’re ready to play. That being said, we don’t expect him to bowl a huge amount of overs with the attack we have.”

An Early Debut?

In a way, yes. A few weeks ago, it seemed unlikely that he would be part of the initial team. However, the injuries of Warner and Pucovksi have changed the plans, opening a spot at number 6. Nevertheless, Green deserves his place; based on his current form, he could be one of Australia’s top six batsmen.

Cameron Green: The New Australian Cricket Promise Ready for His Debut Western Australia’s young all-rounder, 21-year-old Cameron Green, is set to make his debut for the Australian team at the Adelaide Oval.
