Anze Kopitar, Kings Captain, Suffers Foot Injury<\/h2>\n

The captain of the Los Angeles Kings<\/a>, Anze Kopitar, is on the injured list due to a significant foot injury, which could keep him off the ice for a while.<\/p>\n

The team announced this Friday that Kopitar will be evaluated week to week after missing the game against the Pittsburgh Penguins<\/a>, where the Kings fell 4-2 last Thursday.<\/p>\n

The injury occurred on Monday, during the game against the Minnesota Wild<\/a>, when a puck deflected and hit the player’s foot.<\/p>\n

This season marks Kopitar’s twentieth and final year in the NHL, a career that has been entirely with the Kings. The Slovenian center announced his imminent retirement last month, at the start of training camp.<\/p>\n

Kopitar, a two-time Stanley Cup champion, has been awarded the Selke Trophy twice, as the NHL’s most outstanding defensive forward. In addition, he is the second-highest scorer in Kings history and has been selected for the All-Star team five times.<\/p>\n

The Kings have had a complicated start to the season, with three consecutive losses, leaving their record at 1-3-1. The new general manager, Ken Holland, made few changes to the roster that equaled the franchise records in points and wins last season.<\/p>\n
