Los Angeles Kings captain Anze Kopitar has been placed on the injured list due to a significant foot injury, the team announced on Friday.<\/p>\n
Kopitar will be evaluated week to week, after missing Thursday’s game against the Pittsburgh Penguins, where the Kings fell 4-2.<\/p>\n
The injury occurred on Monday, during the Kings’ shootout loss to the Minnesota Wild. Kopitar took a shot to the foot from a deflected puck.<\/p>\n
This season marks Kopitar’s twentieth and final year in the NHL, his entire career has been dedicated to the Kings. The Slovenian center announced his retirement last month, at the beginning of training camp.<\/p>\n
Kopitar, a two-time Stanley Cup champion, has won the Selke Trophy twice, as the NHL’s outstanding defensive forward. He is the second-highest scorer in Kings history and has been selected for the All-Star team five times.<\/p>\n
The Kings have had a complicated start to the season, with three consecutive losses, leaving their record at 1-3-1. The new general manager, Ken Holland, made few changes to the roster that equaled the franchise’s points and wins records last season.<\/p>\n
