The feat was achieved this Saturday with a 2-0 victory over Gotham FC at CPKC Stadium.\n\nWith 62 points, the Current surpasses the previous record of 60 points set by the Orlando Pride last year. Even with two games remaining in the regular season, the team leads the table with a 19-point lead over Washington, which is in second place.\n\nBia Zaneratto scored with a header to give the home team the lead in the first half. Subsequently, Temwa Chawinga, the NWSL’s leading scorer, came off the bench to extend the Current’s lead in the second half, reaching a total of 15 goals in the league.\n\nWith 20 victories, the team surpasses by two the record of last year, established by Orlando and the Washington Spirit.\n\nThe Current have already set several other records this season, solidifying themselves as one of the most dominant teams in NWSL history. They secured the NWSL Shield faster than any other team in league history, in terms of percentage of games played, achieving the trophy in 21 of the 26 games of the season.\n\nIn addition, Kansas City set a new league record last month by keeping 870 consecutive minutes without conceding a goal, which is equivalent to more than nine full matches. With the victory over Gotham, Kansas City has accumulated 17 consecutive matches without losing in the league.\n\nThe Current’s goalkeeper, Lorena, also set an individual record on Saturday, recording her 14th shutout of the season, surpassing the record of 13 set by Orlando’s Anna Moorhouse last season.\n\nLed by former USWNT coach Vlatko Andonovski, the Current will be the number 1 seed in the eight-team playoffs that will begin in November. Andonovski, speaking after the team secured the Shield in September, mentioned that he is not focused on the Current’s position in NWSL history, nor on whether they need to win in the playoffs to confirm their place among the best.\n\nLast year, Orlando won the double: the NWSL Shield and the NWSL Championship.\n\n\n

I just want to be the best we can be and keep growing as a team.
