Cincinnati Reds right-hander Hunter Greene was forced to leave Wednesday night’s game against the Atlanta Braves due to a right groin injury.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Greene, who had struck out six batters and allowed only two hits, was unable to complete his warm-up on the mound in the fourth inning. After throwing only two warm-up pitches, including one that hit the ground, he stopped his routine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Immediately, a group of people approached the mound, including the Reds’ infielders, an athletic trainer, and manager Terry Francona. After a brief conversation, Greene was escorted off the field, with the Reds leading 4-0.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Reds later announced that the groin injury was the cause of Greene’s early exit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Greene was coming off of 12 strikeouts, the most of the season and the second-highest of his career in the Major Leagues, in the 6-1 victory over Washington on Friday night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Once again, Greene showed his good performance against the Braves. The 25-year-old right-hander struck out all three batters in the second inning. Alex Verdugo swung and missed a 101 mph fastball from Greene in the third inning, giving the pitcher six strikeouts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
