Another seven competitors are two strokes away.\n\nXander Schauffele and Collin Morikawa, both members of the American team that suffered defeat in the Ryder Cup, finished the day with a score of 71 strokes (course par). For his part, the Colombian Nico Echavarria, current champion, completed the round with 70 strokes.\n\nHideki Matsuyama, the Japanese golfer and 2021 Masters champion, recorded a score of 72 strokes in the first round.\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>I love playing in Japan.
