Verstappen and Norris engaged in an intense battle for second position, coming close to a collision at one point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Norris, who also had a wide exit that allowed Oscar Piastri to overtake him, commented after the race that facing Verstappen implied “crashing or not overtaking”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It was okay. He’s struggling hard, but it’s up to him to do it. He’s ruining his own race. He’s not racing very intelligently. We probably could have finished 1-2 today, and we didn’t because of that. So yeah, he’s struggling, that’s always expected, but that’s what it is.<\/p>Lando Norris<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
Piastri, who ultimately won the race, managed to overtake Verstappen before Norris could get close enough to challenge for the victory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Both are very different challenges, I would say. On days like today, our two cars were clearly the best in the field by a certain margin. I know how strong Lando is as a driver, being his teammate now for a couple of years. It’s never easy. But also, racing against Max is never easy, as we saw. Both are very different challenges. I was surprised that Max could hold them back for about 14 or 13 laps. I thought it was a very brave display. Arguably that can be a detriment to our own race because you’re fighting hard, your tires are getting hot, but you’re leading the Grand Prix. You have to go for it.
