This error involves a recognition that the team did not actually earn.\n\nWith the start of the NHL season, the Sharks updated the banners hanging from the stadium ceiling. The new designs feature a smaller team logo and a larger font. In addition, the team&#8217;s six division titles were condensed into a single banner, instead of the six individual ones that previously existed.\n\nHowever, a new banner caught the attention of fans both online and during Sunday&#8217;s preseason game against the Vegas Golden Knights. This banner celebrated the Sharks for winning the Presidents&#8217; Trophy in the 2015-16 season, an award given to the team with the best regular season record in the NHL.\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\nhttps:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/embed\/Tweet.html?id=1969905563074175322\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\nThe only problem is that the Sharks finished 11th in the league that season, 22 points behind the Washington Capitals, who actually won the Presidents&#8217; Trophy in 2015-16.\n\nIt is important to note that the Sharks did reach the final in 2015-16, losing to the Penguins in six games.\n\nThe most likely cause of the error is that the Sharks won the Presidents&#8217; Trophy in the 2008-09 season, the only time the team finished in first place in the NHL regular season. This achievement did not have a banner in its honor hanging in the stadium on Sunday night.\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Sharks President Jonathan Becher stated on Sunday that it was a &#8220;printing error&#8221; that the team was already aware of.
