Houston Texans safety Jimmie Ward has been removed from the NFL commissioner’s exempt list this Monday, following a grand jury’s decision not to indict him last week.<\/p>\n
This determination was made by a grand jury in Montgomery County (Texas) last Thursday, months after Ward was arrested on suspicion of third-degree domestic violence.<\/p>\n
The grand jury did not find probable cause to believe that Ward committed the alleged crimes against the woman involved in the incident.<\/p>\n
The NFL has reported that its review of Ward’s case is ongoing, in accordance with the personal conduct policy.<\/p>\n
Ward, who is recovering from offseason foot surgery, was placed on the Texans’ physically unable to perform list on Monday. He was on this list during training camp before being placed on the exempt list on August 26.<\/p>\n
He was arrested on June 12th for alleged domestic violence at his home in Magnolia. The woman claimed, on the morning of the arrest, to have been “violently assaulted on multiple occasions, both sexually and physically” by Ward, in the presence of their three-year-old son. She managed to escape and fled the house to the street, where she called the police.<\/p>\n
Ward was also arrested on August 7 for violating the conditions of his previous release, which prohibited the consumption of alcohol, claiming ignorance. He tested positive for alcohol and had to spend the night in jail.<\/p>\n
The woman filed a lawsuit against Ward in the Harris County (Texas) District Court on August 21, seeking damages of more than $20 million.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
