This incident adds to the growing list of tense moments between the star player and his coach.

The cameras captured the moment Reid and Kelce were yelling at each other on the sidelines during the second quarter of the game. Reid responded to Kelce’s shouts and, to end the conversation, used his left shoulder to push him away.

Despite the tension, Reid downplayed the incident.

Andy Reid

After the victory, the first of the season for the Chiefs, Reid stated that he was not worried about Kelce’s attitude or his words.

I love Travis’s passion. I’m good with that. We didn’t have enough of that in the second quarter. He wasn’t where we needed him to be, so, rightfully so, he knows when to take his foot off the gas and also when to step on it.

Andy Reid

Kelce, a veteran with 13 years of experience, was not available to the media in the Chiefs’ locker room after the game.

At the time of the altercation, the Chiefs’ offense was going through a period of lackluster play. Despite leading 6-0, Kansas City failed to score after the defense recorded its first fumble recovery of the season.

The interception by safety Chris Roland-Wallace gave the ball to quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the offense at the Giants’ 47-yard line. However, a fumble by rookie running back Brashard Smith, a quick pass to Kelce that resulted in a 2-yard loss, and outside linebacker Brian Burns dominating right tackle Jawaan Taylor ended the Chiefs’ drive before they could enter the red zone.

Instead of taking a nine-point lead, kicker Harrison Butker missed a 40-yard field goal, sending the ball wide right.

Mahomes commented after the game that he had not seen Kelce’s interaction with Reid.

He’s a guy who loves it. That’s what’s made him so great. I know they love each other. That’s what you want from the greats.

Patrick Mahomes

In Week 2 against the Philadelphia Eagles, Kelce threw his helmet and yelled at Reid on the Chiefs’ sideline during the second quarter of an eventual 20-17 loss.

When Kelce expressed his frustration to Reid during Sunday’s game, the tight end had recorded only two receptions for 4 yards. The Chiefs’ offense performed better overall in the second half, with Mahomes leading two touchdown drives and Kelce finishing with four receptions for 26 yards.

As he left the field at MetLife Stadium, Kelce smiled as he congratulated several teammates on getting their first win of the season.

Don’t make too much of it. He’s a passionate guy, and I love that part. I’ve been through a lot with him. All of that is part of it. I love that he loves to play. That’s what I love. It’s an emotional game, so we all take it.

Andy Reid

Travis Kelce and Andy Reid: Another Sideline Discussion for the Chiefs In an unexpected turn of events, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce once again found himself in a heated exchange with his coach, Andy Reid, during the game against the New York Giants.
