INGLEWOOD, Calif. \u2013 Los Angeles Chargers running back Najee Harris left Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos on a medical stretcher due to a non-contact injury to his lower left leg.<\/p>\n
Harris collapsed after trying to run and immediately grabbed his left calf. The Chargers later reported that his return to the game was doubtful due to an ankle injury.<\/p>\n
Before leaving the field, Harris led the team with 28 yards on six carries.<\/p>\n
The running back, who signed as a free agent with the Chargers in March, suffered an injury in an accident with fireworks on July 4 and was placed on the non-football injury\/illness list before training camp. He missed all of the Chargers’ training camp practices, but was ready for the start of the season. The Chargers had been increasing Harris’ workload each week, and on Sunday he appeared on track to have the most carries and the most productive game of the season.<\/p>\n
Harris has never missed a game in his NFL career. His durability is one of the reasons he was attractive to the Chargers, but that streak now appears in jeopardy.<\/p>\n
Harris rushed for 1,000 yards in each of his first four seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers. His physical running style is something that Coach Harbaugh values a lot, and having him to start the season was crucial for the potential of this Chargers team in 2025.<\/p>\n
