The incident cost him six points in the drivers&#8217; championship, losing ground to his McLaren teammate, Lando Norris.\n\nAfter an accident in Saturday&#8217;s qualifying session, Piastri started the race from ninth position on the grid. However, by the first corner he had fallen back to last position because his car went into anti-stall mode after a false start.\n\nWhile trying to recover positions on the opening lap, Piastri tried to go around the outside of a group of cars at Turn 5 and crashed into the barriers.\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>I think, ultimately, I miscalculated the grip level. Probably a lot of that is due to the dirty air, but I know I have to expect the lack of grip.<\/p><cite>Oscar Piastri<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\nPiastri stated that there was no obvious reason for him to have two accidents in two days, but he was consoled by his performance over the weekend.\n\n<p>The weekend in Azerbaijan was Piastri&#8217;s first in 2025 without scoring points.
