Laura Villars Surprises with Candidacy for FIA Presidency<\/h2>\n\nSwiss pilot Laura Villars has presented her candidacy for the presidency of the International Automobile Federation (FIA), a decision that, according to her, has been in preparation for months. Villars, 28, becomes the youngest candidate and the first woman to run for this position.\n\nThe December election will pit current president Mohammed Ben Sulayem against American motorsport official Tim Meyer.\n\nVillars’ unexpected candidacy was announced without prior notice, generating surprise in the world of motorsport.\n\n\n

I have everything prepared, the whole program, all the equipment, which gives me a lot of confidence for this presidency. I have a great team, with many experienced people. Everything has been planned for several months.<\/p>Laura Villars<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\nVillars has not yet submitted the official documentation detailing his team for the position, but has until October 24 to do so.\n\nThe candidate hopes that her youth will bring a new perspective against Ben Sulayem, 63, and Meyer, 59.\n\nVillars doesn’t believe that his lack of experience in the world of motorsports is an impediment.\n\n\n

I want to renew and refresh the FIA. I am bringing a new vision. I have been in motorsport all my life. My candidacy was perhaps unusual, perhaps, since yesterday. But I hope that from tomorrow it will be normal and that people, I hope, will feel inspired by it.<\/p>Laura Villars<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\nThe key points of Villars’ agenda include empowering clubs around the world, increasing transparency in governance, and improving the “Women in Motorsport” program. He also seeks to eliminate the barriers faced by young drivers, both men and women, when starting their careers.\n\nFor me, transparency is key to governance. The most important thing for me is democracy. I also want new programs for young pilots and female pilots, talented people, because in my career I faced so many talented people who had to leave motorsport because they didn’t have the money to continue. I want to help talented people, women and men, to pursue their dreams.\n\nThe FIA presidency is decided by the vote of its member clubs, which represent national motorsport and motor sport organizations around the world.
