MINNEAPOLIS – The Minnesota Twins have announced that their starting pitcher, Pablo L\u00f3pez, has been placed on the 15-day injured list due to a mild strain in his right forearm.<\/p>\n
L\u00f3pez suffered the injury on Friday night against Cleveland, while trying to throw a ball that bounced off his heel and reached the first baseman. Despite the injury, the pitcher continued in the game for one more inning before being replaced. An MRI performed on Saturday confirmed the injury.<\/p>\n
This season has been marked by injuries for L\u00f3pez, who was the team’s star pitcher at the beginning of the campaign. He closes the season with a 5-4 record and an ERA of 2.74 in 14 starts. Previously, he missed 14 games in April due to a strain in his right hamstring and 80 games between June 5 and September 5 due to a strain in his right shoulder.<\/p>\n
To cover for L\u00f3pez’s absence, the Twins have called up right-handed pitcher Mick Abel from Triple-A St. Paul. Abel, acquired from Philadelphia in July in exchange for closer Jhoan Dur\u00e1n, has already had two appearances with the Twins, including one start, before being sent back on August 31.
