L\u00f3pez’s injury occurred Friday night against Cleveland, when he stretched to throw a ball that bounced off his heel and reached the first baseman. Despite this, he pitched one more inning before leaving the game. An MRI performed on Saturday confirmed the injury.<\/p>\n
L\u00f3pez, who was the team’s primary starter at the beginning of the season, closes out a season marked by injuries with a 5-4 record and a 2.74 ERA in 14 starts. Previously, he missed 14 games due to a right hamstring strain in April and 80 games from June 5 to September 5 due to a right shoulder injury.<\/p>\n
The Twins have called up right-handed pitcher Mick Abel from Triple-A St. Paul to take L\u00f3pez’s place on the roster. Abel, acquired from Philadelphia in July in exchange for closer Jhoan Duran, had two appearances, one as a starter, for the Twins before being sent back on August 31.
