Santo Domingo \u2013 Dominican strategist Gilbert G\u00f3mez, a member of the Tigres del Licey coaching staff, has guided the Brooklyn Cyclones, the Advanced A affiliate of the New York Mets, to the South Atlantic League championship. This achievement represents the first title for the team in this league and the third in the history of the franchise.<\/p>\n
The Cyclones’ season under G\u00f3mez’s direction was historic. The team set a franchise record with 72 regular season wins and was crowned champion of the North Division in the first half of the schedule. In the postseason, they demonstrated their dominance with an impeccable 4-0, surpassing Greensboro and Hub City to secure the championship.<\/p>\n
2025 has been a year of important recognitions for G\u00f3mez, who was designated as manager of the \u201cBreakout Game\u201d in the Major League Baseball preseason, facing his colleague and assistant at Licey, H\u00e9ctor Borg. Additionally, he was named assistant to manager Albert Pujols for the next World Baseball Classic.<\/p>\n
With a distinguished international career, G\u00f3mez also served as a batting and third base coach with the Dominican Republic national team, which won the bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.<\/p>\n
Currently, the young leader is in his fifth season with the Tigres del Licey, where he has held various roles, from quality control coach to champion manager.
