The Chicago Cubs have activated right-handed pitcher Michael Soroka from the 15-day injured list ahead of Monday night’s game against Pittsburgh.<\/p>\n
Soroka, who was acquired by the Cubs at the trade deadline, will be used as a reliever. Initially, the plan was for Soroka to be a starter.<\/p>\n
In his debut with the Cubs against Cincinnati, Soroka only pitched two innings before leaving the game due to a strain in his right shoulder. Afterwards, he made a rehabilitation appearance with Triple-A Iowa, where he allowed one run in 2\u2154 innings.<\/p>\n
This season, Soroka has a 3-8 record with an ERA of 4.86 in 17 starts.<\/p>\n
In a corresponding move, right-handed pitcher Ben Brown was sent to Iowa. Brown has a 5-8 record with a 5.92 ERA in 25 games, including 15 starts.<\/p>\n
In addition, closer Daniel Palencia pitched from the mound for the first time since being placed on the injured list on September 8 due to a right shoulder strain. Palencia has converted 22 of 25 save opportunities and has an ERA of 3.00 in 52 games.<\/p>\n
Designated hitter Seiya Suzuki was not in the lineup on Monday due to bronchitis.<\/p>\n
