To fill the position on the roster, the Giants activated infielder and outfielder Jerar Encarnaci\u00f3n from the injured list, following his rehabilitation assignment.<\/p>\n
The play in which Smith was injured occurred in the top of the fourth inning, with two outs. Third baseman Matt Chapman fielded a hard ground ball from Andy Pages and threw to first. Smith, in an effort to make the play, stretched to the maximum.<\/p>\n
