Meanwhile, fans closely followed Scottie Scheffler and the U.S. Ryder Cup team, who experienced mixed results.

Ben Griffin, a Ryder Cup rookie, fell behind the other competitors until five birdies in the second half of the course allowed him to sign a card of 64 strokes. Matt McCarty also achieved an outstanding performance. Russell Henley and Lanto Griffin held firm with 65 strokes.

Scheffler, who had been on a streak of outstanding results since March, saw his good form interrupted on a windy day. A mistake on the 18th hole forced him to settle for a par and a 70, ending his streak of 21 consecutive rounds under 70 strokes.

Several Ryder Cup players are in the tournament, looking to hone their game before the competition at Bethpage Black. Russell Henley carded a 65, while J.J. Spaun, US Open champion, signed for a 67.

“I think it was a little different today, knowing that we were all playing in the same time slot, and obviously we spent a lot of time together this week, so it definitely feels slightly different than it would if this tournament were in March. The Ryder Cup is just around the corner,” commented a player.

Ryder Cup Player

Despite this, the week isn’t just social. Scheffler showed frustration over a shot on the 12th hole, but managed par. This result contributed to his first card with a “7” since the Travelers Championship in June.

“This is his first tournament here. It’s very peculiar. I don’t think I liked this place the first few times I came, but you learn to play, you learn where to miss. The greens, especially in the afternoon, are not great. It’s just poa annua and they’re sloped and pretty quick. He just missed a few putts. That would have kept his streak going. He’ll be fine,” Spaun said.

J.J. Spaun

Hughes, for his part, seeks to secure his place among the top 60 of the FedEx Cup to participate in the featured events of next year. With nine birdies in 13 holes, he briefly considered a 59, although he finally signed a 63.

“The goal is to get into that top 60 and prepare for my start of the year. I would also like to play few events and rest well and be at home a lot this fall. That’s the plan at the moment. But we’ll see what happens,” said Hughes, currently in 65th place.

Mackenzie Hughes

Keegan Bradley, Ryder Cup captain, was present as a spectator.

Sam Burns finished with 71 strokes, while other Ryder Cup players such as Justin Thomas, Cameron Young, Patrick Cantlay, Harris English, and Collin Morikawa scored 72.

Bryson DeChambeau did not participate in the tournament due to his LIV Golf player status, while Xander Schauffele is in Florida with his newborn.

Mackenzie Hughes leads the Procore Championship with an impressive 63 Canadian golfer Mackenzie Hughes shone at the Procore Championship with a remarkable round of 63 strokes, nine under par.
