The news was confirmed by his agent, Adisa Bakari.\n\nWatson, 26, was selected in the second round of the 2022 draft. This extension prevents the player from becoming a free agent next season.\n\nThe receiver suffered a right knee injury in the last regular season game of last year against the Chicago Bears. He is currently on the physically unable to perform list, which means he will miss at least the first four games of this season.\n\nCoach Matt LaFleur and general manager Brian Gutekunst have praised Watson&#8217;s recovery during the preseason.\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cWhen you see him running\u2026 you want to throw him out there, right?\u201d, Gutekunst commented in the middle of training camp last month. \u201cBut there\u2019s a timeline with these ACL injuries, and he\u2019s certainly ahead of the curve. There\u2019s no doubt about it, but at the same time he has a long career ahead of him, so we want to make sure we take the right steps and don\u2019t skip any steps along the way.\u201d<\/p><cite>Brian Gutekunst<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\nWatson, who has dealt with several injuries during his NFL career, has participated in 38 games in three seasons, accumulating 98 receptions for 1,653 yards and 14 touchdowns.
