The legendary tennis players Venus and Serena Williams join forces in a new initiative with the aim of providing opportunities to young people from communities with limited resources through tennis and education.<\/p>\n
The “Williams Family Excellence Program” was announced on Thursday at the U.S. Open, in collaboration with the USTA Foundation, during the women’s semi-final matches. Venus Williams participated in the on-court ceremony.<\/p>\n
This program will focus on post-secondary education and professional development, seeking to impact more than 2,500 young people between 13 and 25 years old annually by the year 2035. The USTA Foundation’s community organizations will identify and recruit young people with athletic potential and financial needs, offering them free or low-cost high-performance training, guidance for university admission, and access to camps and competitions.<\/p>\n
Venus Williams, at 45 years old, competed in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles at this year’s U.S. Open. Serena, her younger sister, accumulated 23 Grand Slam singles titles, and together, the Williams sisters earned 14 more doubles titles.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
