Last Sunday, in a match where the Black Ferns crushed Japan with a score of 62-19, Woodman-Wickliffe became the top try scorer in the history of New Zealand rugby, surpassing any player, both men and women.

Woodman-Wickliffe reached this milestone after scoring in last week’s victory against Spain.

The 34-year-old player scored her 50th try at 12 minutes into the match in Exeter, in her thirtieth match with the New Zealand national team. In addition, she extended her own record for tries in the World Cup, reaching 22.

With two World Cups and two Olympic gold medals to her name, Woodman-Wickliffe is an undisputed legend in both XVs and sevens rugby.

I think a lot of people have compared P [Portia] to the female Jonah Lomu… and that’s exactly what she’s done.

Ruahei Demant, co-captain of the Black Ferns

Demant also highlighted Woodman-Wickliffe’s influence on the game. “She is undoubtedly the most influential female rugby player in the world. I feel very proud and fortunate to be able to play alongside her as a teammate and not as a rival.”

“Regardless of the achievements and recognitions she receives, for those of us who know her as a person, she is one of the most humble and simple people you will meet.
