UFC middleweight ex-champion Sean Strickland has been suspended for six months by the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC). The sanction is due to his participation in a physical altercation with another fighter at an MMA event in June.<\/p>\n
The NSAC suspended Strickland, 34, and fined him $5,000 during its monthly meeting on Thursday. The suspension dates back to the time of the incident, which occurred on June 29 at a Tuff-N-Uff event in Las Vegas. The suspension will end on December 29, although Strickland can reduce it to 4.5 months if he completes an anger management course.<\/p>\n
Strickland, a Las Vegas resident, entered the cage after a fighter he trains, Miles Hunsinger, suffered a submission loss to Luis Hernandez. Immediately after the fight, Hernandez taunted Hunsinger’s corner, which provoked a response from Strickland and fellow UFC fighter Chris Curtis. A video captured Strickland throwing a couple of punches at Hernandez.<\/p>\n
The NSAC also fined Curtis $2,500 for his involvement in the incident.<\/p>\n
