He will face Erickson Lubin in an exciting defense of his WBC interim super welterweight title at the Dickies Center in Fort Worth, TX, as announced by Golden Boy Promotions on Thursday.\n\nThe fight, which promises to be a high-caliber spectacle, will be broadcast live worldwide via DAZN.\n\nThis fight represents a homecoming for Ortiz, who is coming off an impressive decision victory over Israil Madrimov in February.\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>I&#8217;m always happy to be part of the fights that the fans want to see.<\/p><cite>Vergil Ortiz Jr.<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Although this matchup wasn&#8217;t the one Ortiz originally sought.<\/p>\n\n\nOrtiz, 27, was targeting a fight with WBO champion Xander Zayas, and the two exchanged provocations on social media. However, the parties failed to reach an agreement, which led Ortiz&#8217;s management to quickly secure a fight with Lubin.\n\nRumors also emerged about a possible fight between Ortiz and Jaron &#8220;Boots&#8221; Ennis in 2026. Ortiz&#8217;s representation denied that any agreement existed for that fight.\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Golden Boy literally tried with every major opponent that was there for us and nobody wanted to fight Vergil. Even His Excellency (Turki Alalshikh) tried by offering &#8216;Boots&#8217; a life-changing amount of money and he said no to a tune-up fight. Vergil Ortiz is the most feared man in boxing.
