Herta seeks to obtain the necessary points for the super license, an essential requirement to compete in the global series.

Uncertainty surrounds the future of several drivers in IndyCar, especially before the season finale at the Nashville Superspeedway. Among them, Will Power stands out, a two-time IndyCar champion, whose contract with Team Penske is still under discussion.

Rumors suggest that Power could replace Herta at Andretti Global, in case team owner Dan Towriss decides to send Herta to F2 to obtain the super license.

The Towriss group owns the new Cadillac F1 team, which recently announced Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Pérez as their drivers for the 2026 season. The F1 project began in 2021 under the direction of Michael Andretti, who had reserved a seat for Herta, with the aim of creating an authentic American team.

However, after four seasons, Herta has still not managed to obtain the super license and was not considered for one of the Cadillac seats.

“I have no comment on any of that, to be honest,” Herta stated.
Colton Herta

Faced with the insistence on whether by not denying the rumors she was fueling them, Herta chose to evade the question again.

“Yes, but it also makes people talk about me more. Maybe it even increases my value a little,” the driver added.
Colton Herta

Subsequently, Herta diverted the conversation by changing the subject. When Towriss was asked about Herta during the F1 driver announcement, he mentioned that Herta was not an option due to the lack of a super license.

However, when directly questioned about whether he was trying to move Herta to an F2 team, Towriss replied: “That’s not what we’re reporting today”.

This response contrasted notably with the one Towriss offered regarding reports indicating his interest in hiring Christian Horner, former director of the Red Bull team, for Cadillac.

“There have been no conversations with Christian Horner. There are no plans for that. I would like to officially close that rumor,” stated Towriss.
Dan Towriss

Herta, 25, is in his seventh IndyCar season and has nine career wins. Last season, he achieved his best position in the standings, finishing second, but he hasn’t achieved any wins in the current season and is in sixth place in points, behind his Andretti Global teammate, Kyle Kirkwood. Álex Palou, from Chip Ganassi Racing, already secured the title two races ago.

Colton Herta Evades Rumors About His IndyCar Future Driver Colton Herta has avoided addressing rumors about his possible departure from IndyCar to enter the Formula 1 development system.
