This rise came after his victory at the Tour Championship, a tournament that closed the PGA American circuit season, held in Atlanta, Georgia.

“It was about time,” Fleetwood expressed at the end of the tournament.

Tommy Fleetwood

Fleetwood, who pocketed a $10 million prize for his triumph, ended a streak of 163 tournaments on the PGA Tour without a win. Despite having 30 top-five finishes and several second places, the victory at the Tour Championship marked a turning point in his career.

A final round of 68 strokes allowed Fleetwood to finish with a total of 262, surpassing Americans Russell Henley and Patrick Cantlay by three strokes. Previously, he had already accumulated eight victories on the DP World Tour and was a prominent member of the European Ryder Cup team, but he lacked this recognition in the United States.

“I’ve had to be resilient in terms of getting back out there, getting back into that position, no matter how many times it doesn’t go the way I want, no matter how many doubts may arise. Like any normal person, I get disappointed, I get sad, I get angry. But at the same time… I think I’m aware that there’s no point in turning things into a negative experience. You just have to learn from everything and try to do your best,” he indicated.

Tommy Fleetwood

This victory propelled Fleetwood from tenth place, bringing him closer to the world’s top 5 with an average of 5.67 points. The ranking is led by American Scottie Scheffler (21.19), followed by Rory McIlroy (11.14), Xander Schauffele (6.69), Russell Henley (6.14), and Justin Thomas (5.84).

In contrast, the Spanish Jon Rahm, who competes on the LIV circuit, has experienced a drop in the ranking, placing at number 79. His team, Legion XIII, won the team title this Sunday in Michigan.

With the Ryder Cup on the horizon, which will be played in September at the Bethpage Black Course in Farmingdale, New York, Fleetwood has already secured his place on the European team. Alongside him are Justin Rose, Tyrrel Hatton, Rory McIlroy, and Rasmus Hojgaard.

Now, captain Luke Donald will have to choose six additional players to complete the European team, with Rahm as one of the possible selections.

The American team already has Scheffler, Schauffele, JJ Spaun, Russell Henley, Harris English, and Bryson DeChambeau. Captain Keegan Bradley will make important decisions, with the support of his vice-captains Jim Furyk, Kevin Kisner, Webb Simpson, Brandt Snedeker, and Gary Woodland.

Among the candidates for the American team are Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, Sam Burns, Bradley himself and Patrick Cantlay, as well as potential debutants such as Ben Griffin, Cameron Young, Chris Gotterup and Maverick McNealy.

Tommy Fleetwood Conquers PGA and Rises in World Golf Ranking English golfer Tommy Fleetwood has achieved a significant milestone in his career, climbing to sixth position in the world ranking.
